Game Summary (Sharks vs. San Luis Obispo Panthers)

Sharks - 10
Panthers - 7
The West Coast Sharks were in a tough up hill fight on Saturday night against the San Luis Obispo Panthers. The Sharks came out very flat in the first half dropping numerous passes on the night and getting knocked around by the Panthers Defense fortunately the Sharks led by a score of 3 -0 (a 24 yard Field goal by K Mark Drake) at the end of the first quarter but then came the roaring Panthers in the second quarter who put together an impressive drive down the field to go up at the half by a score of 7-3. The Panthers had momentum in their favor going into the halftime and the Sharks looked shocked as a team. The second half saw the coaching staff challenge the Sharks team to continue to play shut down Defense and the Offense to start executing and things would turn out in their favor and sure enough they did, The Sharks Offense got a bolt of intensity from their veteran receiver and team leader WR Jeremie Ruell whose fire became infectious to the entire Sharks bench and led to the momentum shift back to the Sharks. The turnaround on the game was a huge fumble recovery from the Sharks by DE Tito Williams and the Sharks took over control offensively in the fourth to seal the deal with a big catch by TE Marlon Barnett across the middle.

Sharks suffer first loss in 2008
The West Coast Sharks loss by a score of 31-0, to the Top team in the LCFL-West (South Division) San Diego Thunder. The Sharks were handed their second worst defeat in franchise history and at home. The West Coast Sharks Offense rushed for a dismal 50 yards and passed for only 130 yards combined and no TD’s. Our hats go off to the Thunder’s terrific Defense who held the Sharks attack in check throughout the evening. The Sharks Defense didn’t fair much better as they gave up a season high total of over 300 total yards and 3 TD’s through the air with only 2 sacks recorded for the entire game. The San Diego Thunder came with a great game package and scheme which seemed to keep the Sharks off- balance throughout the game. “It was a tough loss this week for the Sharks and now comes the time for us as a team/staff to reflect on this and to see how resilient we are after a no-show like this past weekend, said Coach Downs”.

Game Summary (Sharks vs. Mad Dogs)
In the home opener this past weekend against the Santa Clarita Mad Dogs, The West Coast Sharks showed signs of sluggishness and fatigue early in the game against the Mad Dogs. The Mad Dogs came out on fire defensively as they stepped in front of the Sharks two interceptions which led to an early first quarter lead for the Mad Dogs ending the quarter at 12-0. But then the came the resurgent Sharks after an inspiring halftime speech by Head Coach Desi Wells, led the team back into playing the brand the of football the Sharks were more noted for. The Stingy Sharks defense was monumental in the comeback highlighted by a devastating hit by LB Mike Jasper which created a very athletic return by DE Emil Palacio who raced up the field for a 42 yard TD. The Offense then pitched in, beginning on a perfect rollout strike from QB Reggie Haynes to WR Herb Jefferson. In the 3rd Quarter the tide had started to shift to the Sharks as they inserted QB Dion Bergeron in the game and he marched the struggling Sharks Offense down the field capped off by beautiful 60 yard strike down field to a wide open Reggie Haynes. The Sharks second half offense, wore down the Mad Dogs in the fourth quarter and resulted in another TD by RB Johnny Hayes.
The Sharks (3-0 overall) will face a noted rival in the San Diego Thunder (3-0 overall) who are rated #1 in the LCFL-South Division as well come into the Sharks Tank with a national ranking on the line and a overall record of (30 wins -5 losses) in their first 3 years of existence. Owner Derrick Johnson has historically done a tremendous job with his organization/teams and will bring their show to the Sharks Tank for the first time in previous play between these two squads. Both teams are (1-1) head to head against each other and fans - this one should be a dandy !!!

West Coast Sharks (2-0 Overall, 1-0) get victory over tough Central Coast Grizzlies
The road tested Sharks have racked up the frequent road miles as well the victories so far this 2008 season as they have shown the mental and physical toughness it takes to win on the road. The Sharks have traveled south to San Diego, CA. (3 hours) and north to Cambria, CA. (3.5 hours) in their back to back contest this 2008 season. The Week #1 game between the Sharks and Grizzlies was a hard fought game by both teams as turnovers plague the Sharks offense (6 INT's) and 4 turnovers by the Grizzlies.
This game was a tough battle with a host of sacks by the Sharks Defense (8) who seem to improve each game. Led by Sharks MVP LB Mike Jasper who posted 16 tackles and 1 sack picking up where he left off from last years LCFL West league leading performance, veteran All-Star DE Mike Forney (1 sack and 1 INT) and LB Carlos Madrigal (2 sacks), the Sharks also got a big push up front by the outstanding play of their Huge Defensive Line DE Vinny Santiago (1 sack) DT Vic Fonseca, Jr. (1 Fumble recovery), DT Buford Juice, DE J.D. Lindsey, DT Jesse Aguilar (1 sack), DT Seepoleta Imo and DE Tito Williams (1 sack and 1 Fumble recovery) who simply dominated the Grizzlies Offense all game giving up less then 40 yards total rushing in the game. It was a major key to victory.
The Sharks Offense was led by RB Jason Wagner who rush for over 150 yards on the ground. The Sharks scored on a 6 yards scamper by RB Jamarr Johnson and on a beautiful pass across the middle to TE Quedar Edwards.

WC Sharks in Politics
Lee Elder, the Public Relations Director for the West Coast
Sharks, recently added a new responsibility to his workload. Elder was
appointed to fill an empty seat on the Ventura County Board of
Education.
A resident of Oxnard, Calif., Elder is a veteran Public
Relations representative in the auto racing industry (Goodyear-NASCAR).
He's been with the Sharks since the 2005.
"I applied for the position because I'd like to help kids
learn and teachers teach," said Elder. "I've already developed some
ideas that might enhance some of the programs the county office watches
over."
Elder mentioned his involvement with the Sharks during the
interview process.
"The members were joking about Monday night meetings
interfering with watching the NFL and I mentioned, in the interest of
equal time of course, that I work with the West Coast Sharks minor
league football team," Elder said. "That got a few smiles."
Elder said his duties with the VCBoE will not interfere with
his work with the Sharks.
The West Coast Sharks congratulate Lee Elder on his foray
into politics and for his tireless effort in marketing/representing the
Sharks in government office.
